Yellow Roses, China painting
Taking up painting for me was something I never thought I could ever do, why? Because I was told not to bother with art classes at school as I was hopeless at it. Later I attended The College for the Distributive Trades and trained to be a window dresser, we shared facilities with St Martins school of Art which on one hand was exciting with so many students brandishing weird and quite wonderful works of art, but scary knowing that we had art assignment to complete as well, time to bunk off college in my book! I was 50 years old before Art was to become my very reason for existence, I now live breathe and eat art. A small dabble into China Painting with good friend and fellow Artist Sallie Pearman (who now runs the successful chain Yes NZ) and an introduction into the talented works of Tony Clarke and I was suddenly on my way. It doesn’t matter that you don’t have a talent for painting as I soon found out; art can be taught to anyone you just have to have the desire and a great teacher!
